How often do you clean your makeup brushes? You should be cleaning your makeup brushes thoroughly at least every two weeks! In this blog I'm going to tell you why it's important to keep your makeup tools clean and how to correctly wash them!

Cleaning your makeup brushes plays a bigger part when you are applying your makeup than you might think. Reusing unwashed makeup tools can leave you with an uneven application, even causing acne break-outs and blackheads from the oils that still linger in your brushes. As the inside of your makeup sponges and brushes hold so many chemicals and bacteria from the products you use that you can't see.

Just like using fake beauty products, we all know they can have terrible effects on your skin, well it's the same as using dirty brushes. I bet you will think twice about reusing unwashed brushes on your skin! So how can you clean them properly?

Make sure to choose a day that you have no plans, ensuring the brushes have plenty of time to dry before using them again. Gather all of your tools together and head to the sink! Rinse your brush with water, then using a brush cleanser of your choice rub the cleanser into the brush cleaning thoroughly. Rinse under warm water until the water starts to run clear, leaving no trace of cleanser or old product. Carefully squeeze out the left over water, then gently rub the brush onto a paper towel ensuring all of the water is absorbed without ruining the shape of your brush.

To clean the sponge thoroughly submerge the sponge underwater, then continue to wash the sponge with soap. You will have to repeat this process 2 or 3 times as the old product sits deeper inside of the sponge. You have to give them a good squeeze to get all of the old product and water out! Make sure to regularly replace your sponges to avoid bacteria building up inside of the sponge!
